If you didn’t know what to do with your life, you should take a look at Divyanka Tripathi‘s career. This dove-eyed damsel from Bhopal – who everyone knows from the prime-time Ekta Kapoor soap, Yeh Hai Mohabattein as Dr. Ishita Bhalla – is a certified mountaineer.
It doesn’t just stop there, she is also a multiple gold medalist in rifle-shooting. In an interview with Good Housekeeping in 2015, she stated that she dreamed of being an officer in the Indian Army. You don’t want to mess with this one.
Divyanka’s interests diverged when she won the title of Miss Beautiful Skin as a teen as well as the Miss Bhopal title a few years later. Sensing these headwinds, she dived into the television industry. Her first job was as an anchor on Akash-Vani followed by successive stints hosting talk shows and radio shows. This experience instilled in her the confidence required to appear before the screen.
She went on to star in a television-only film which aired on Sahara One and brought her to the attention of the production houses in Mumbai.For her first television assignment, she starred on Zee TV’s Banoo Main Teri Dulhan where she played the dual role of Vidya an illiterate orphan and Divya an urban girl.
Her performance won accolades, including the Indian Television Award for Best Actress in a Drama. She has been playing her current and most popular role of Dr. Ishita Bhalla since 2013. Divyanka claims to have been a tomboy as a child. She had only one of her ears pierced and she loved wearing jeans and trousers while other girls her age were more conservatively dressed.
She decided to join the NCC because her father was once a cadet too. Her dream role is to play Nargis in Mother India. Divyanka also loves to prepare for Iftaar which she says is the essence of the brotherhood between the Hindu and Muslim communities in Bhopal. Currently Divyanka and Vivek Dahiya are taking part in Nach Baliye.
In a contest, the couple failed the relationship test. This was picked up by the press much to the consternation of Divyanka. She retaliated by tweeting that knowing what your husband sings in the bathroom does not make a good relationship.
